appearance ≠ morality?

People often confuse appearance with morality: appearance morality.

appearance = beautiful = good?
appearance = ugly = bad?

1. "That is beautiful which pleases the sight."Aquinas
2. "The beautiful is akin to the truth." Plato

Moral desicions are based on personal truths. (relative)
"God" = "absolute morality" (universal)

People who believe in "God" believe in an "absolute morality"

Relative truth and morality becomes universal truth and morality.

Truth is akin to the beautiful
"God" aka "absolute morality" = truth aka beautiful

Morality = appearance?

To see the truth one has to look beyond mere appearance.

The word "God" is just an appearance. What does it symbolize?

The symbol of the appearance = morality

People do not have to believe in "God" to understand the concept of moral universalism.

If an action is right (or wrong) for others, it is right (or wrong) for us. (groups of people)

What is good (or bad) for one is not necessarily good (or bad) for the other. (individual)
What is right (or wrong) for one is right (or wrong) for the other. (individual)

You cannot tell people what is best for them to do (for they have different intentions), you can only tell them what is the right thing to do (for the consequenses of ones intentions won't vary).

People equal (equity of quality)

Egalitarianism suggests people are equal (universal). People have different qualities (relative), yet, they should be treated with equal dignity.

People equal (relative)
People = equal (universal)

Inside of the universal lives the relative.

"mere" appearance morality
The symbol of the appearance (that which signifies what is right or wrong (universal), not necessarily that which is good or bad (relative)) = morality

What is right (universal) should be treated in higher regard than that which is good (relative).

The symbol is located behind a curtain, behind the appearance. People who go and look there do so at their own peril. People who look beyond mere appearance are in a way courageous. People who look beyond the curtain have a better sense of what is right and wrong. It is a heavy curtain though. Besides, the actors just continue playing.

Beauty will not save the world, courageous people will.

This is my modest personal truth (relative).
